About Us

Unity Supermarket Limited (USL) is the realization of a long-standing dream held by the PNG Christian Professionals Network Inc (PNGCPN) to economically empower Christian churches and the people of Papua New Guinea (PNG). Since its establishment in 2013, the PNGCPN has been dedicated to supporting churches and their members in preventing wealth transfer to foreign operators through shopping malls and supermarkets that may conflict with their values.

Inspired by PNGCPN’s compelling vision, a team of 13 passionate entrepreneurs came together to bring this vision to life. In March 2020, they embarked on an extraordinary journey, aiming to create a significant impact in PNG’s history. The founders, whose names will be etched in USL’s history includes Eric Haiara, Ben Ketegu, John Mong, Graham Dalibe, Clarke Piokole, Norma Kulung, Yowa Zurenu, Julius Aijau, Thomas Webb, Ramona Webb, Rima Duana, Jackson Zabala, and Ken Siminji, have played a pivotal role in turning this vision into reality.

After months of deliberation, discussions, and meticulous planning, USL successfully secured a lease for Building 13 of the Steamships Estate in November 2020. The lease negotiations were finalized in December 2020, and in January 2021, Building 13 opened its doors, proudly displaying the Unity Mall banner atop its rooftop. The project, named “We PNG Promote PNG,” quickly gained momentum and resonated deeply with Christians, churches, farmers, SME entrepreneurs, and patriotic PNGans, who wholeheartedly embraced and invested in the dream.

The community surrounding USL consists of creators, investors, customers, suppliers, and owners, all coming together as a collective force unparalleled in its unity. United in their efforts, they are constructing a thriving trading hub that serves as a catalyst for the growth and convergence of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across PNG. The project’s name perfectly captures the essence of unity, reflecting their unwavering commitment to creating a space where PNGans can come together and flourish through a shared social enterprise that will be nurtured with diligence and care.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and harsh economic conditions in 2021 and 2022, the team at USL has demonstrated resilience and perseverance. In February 2023, refurbishment works for the new supermarket commenced, breathing life into their grand vision. The announcement has been met with anticipation, and in September 2023, the supermarket doors will open, welcoming the first customers.

Our Future

Looking ahead, our commitment is to foster additional partnerships with Christians, Churches, and patriotic PNGans across different regions of PNG who share our vision and aspirations. Together, we aim to build malls in the centres of each region over the next 20 years, creating vibrant economic hubs that benefit local farmers, entrepreneurs, and the wider communities.

In addition to our focus on malls and supermarkets, we are wholeheartedly dedicated to developing a resilient fresh food supply chain. By collaborating with our extensive network of farmers throughout the country, we will explore opportunities to export high-quality fresh food products. Our goal is to empower and guide our network of small-scale farmers to unlock the full potential of their land and embrace the rich and fertile agricultural heritage bestowed upon us by God. Through these efforts, we seek to stimulate business and commerce; and improve the availability of fresh food for our population and others, including our neighbouring countries. We aim to provide them with organic and exceptional fresh food products, thus fostering the nourishment and well-being of everyone.
